"So Called" Vocal Myths ›

It’s ridiculous how stupid some people can be. I could not even believe what I was reading as I read through this site. Not only does this hugely misinformed writer take a proverbial swing at the Garcia family, who, I.M.O., contributed some major elements to the perfect vocal techinique, but even worse, are blatantly wrong about many fundamental vocal ideas. I mean, seriously, who doens’t believe that vocal registers and register changes exist. Have the never heard of the Passaggio???? ugh

This really is a scarily awful article.

I’m really curious now to hear what techniques other vocalists on Tumblr are implementing? This is a really bad, unprofessional article because it is insulting to other techniques and is poorly written (hello, grammatical/punctuation errors), BUT, phrased more positively and with more technical detail, there could be some good information to consider regarding breath management.  For example: “singing from the diaphragm” really is a fallacious old technique because the diaphragm itself is an involuntary muscle that gently pushes your internal organs down to accommodate full expansion of the lungs, so singers who “push/sing from the diaphragm” are actually tensing the abdominal wall, which spreads tension from the back to the shoulders to the neck to the throat to the jaw. Tension = harsh, strident sound, unnatural vibrato, etc.

Most of these other “myths” I have never even heard before. And the rest of this guy’s “lessons” look to me like really weakly applied, poorly explained techniques taken from the Andover Educators / Body Mapping school of musical study. I tried giving him the benefit of the doubt for as long as possible, but then I found the “recordings of Eric singing” page… I’m done.
